Delegation from the University of St Andrews Visits the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China

On March 17th, a delegation led by Robert Bradley MacKay, Deputy Principal of the University of St Andrews, visited the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China. Samantha Lister, Director of the Global Office, and Zhang Jianglong, Regional Manager for East Asia of the Admissions Office, accompanied the visit. Li Chen, Deputy Dean of the School of International Studies, and Lian Chenchao, faculty member, also participated in the meeting.

 

Deputy Dean Li Chen welcomed Vice-Chancellor MacKay and his delegation and then reflected on the two institutions' long-standing partnership, noting the meaningful impact that its had on faculty and students at Renmin's School of International Studies. He then highlighted the School's academic strengths in areas such as security studies and European studies, along with the development of its visiting scholar programs. Li expressed the School's interest in further collaboration with St Andrews, and in fostering more opportunities for faculty and student exchanges.

Faculty member Lian Chenchao shared his personal experience studying at the University of St Andrews as an exchange student during his undergraduate years at Renmin University, reflecting on how that experience shaped his academic development. He expressed his hope to promote further exchanges and cooperation between the two institutions to benefit more faculty and students.

Vice-Chancellor MacKay expressed his appreciation for the School's warm hospitality and noted that the University of St Andrews places great value on its long-standing partnership with the School of International Studies at Renmin University, expressing a strong commitment to further exchanges between the two sides.

Following this, both sides discussed matters based on the existing partnership, including short-term student exchanges, faculty visits, and joint academic conferences. They also exchanged views on important topics such as how universities can respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence, as well as innovative approaches to talent development.
