From November 12th to 16th, 2023, a delegation from Renmin University's School of International Studies visited Singapore to foster international collaborations and advance studies in political science and regional studies. Engagements included exchanges with top institutions like Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore, the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office, Business China, and other organizations, aiming to explore and deepen collaborative ventures in trade and commerce. The delegation was led by Vice Dean of the School of International Studies and Dean of the Institute of Regional and Country Studies, Professor Di Dongsheng, and included Professor Han Donglin, Associate Professor Ji Xianbai, Assistant Professor Li Xiafei, and Research Secretary Liu Yuxi.
On November 14th, Nanyang Technological University invited the delegation to visit the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at NTU in Singapore. Associate Professor Li Mingjiang, Vice Dean of Academic Affairs (International Relations) and head of the PhD program at RSIS, NTU, welcomed Professor Di Dongsheng and his delegation. They discussed international relations topics including China-U.S. and China-ASEAN relations, regional economic integration, and crises in the Middle East and Ukraine. The two parties also explored future educational exchange and cooperation between the institutions. Distinguished attendees also included the former Singaporean ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Cambodia, Lawrence Anderson, the director of the International Political Economy program, Dr. Su-Hyun Lee, and head of external relations, Eddie Lim.
On November 16th, the delegation visited the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, where they were welcomed by Simon SC Tay, the chairman of the institute and associate professor at the National University of Singapore's Law School. The visit included discussions on China-U.S. and China-Singapore relations, think tank development, and cooperation in regional studies. Dr. Evelyn Tan, the Deputy Director of Policy Programs at the institute, was also part of the event.
On November 15th, the delegation visited Business China, where they were welcomed by President Ho Ghee Hin. He introduced the operations of Business China and the preparations for the 'Insightful China Global Forum.' Both parties expressed a desire to strengthen exchanges and cooperation to foster mutual development.
The delegation then visited the National University of Singapore, meeting with Associate Professor Tang Lingling, former head of the Department of Japanese Studies, NUS. Discussions focused on the development of regional and country-specific studies, and the history and current state of Japanese studies.
The delegation also visited several financial institutions in Singapore, enhancing their understanding of Southeast Asian regional economic integration and the development of Singapore's financial market.
