Song Wei is a Professor of International Relations at Renmin University of China. He began his academic journey in the field of international relations as an undergraduate student at Peking University in September 1997, and then he continued to get his master and doctoral degrees from Peking University. During his doctoral studies, he participated in a joint training program between Peking University and Waseda University of Japan, which led to him receiving an additional doctoral degree in international relations from Waseda University. Upon completing his studies in July 2007, he joined Peking University as an Assistant Professor in the School of International Studies. from August 2009 to July 2015. Since August 2015, he has been appointed as a Professor of international relations at Renmin University of China .

Song Wei has published three books in Chinese. The first published is International Relations Theory: from Political Thoughts to Social Science (Shanghai Educational Publishing House, 2011), which received the Second Prize of Excellent Achievement of Philosophy and Social Science in Beijing. The second one is Defending the Hegemonic interests: American Strategy towards Regional Integration from 1945-2005 (Peking University Press, 2014). The third book is Positional Realism: A Theory of Foreign Policy, which was published by Shanghai People’s Publishing House in May 2021.

Song Wei is also the primary translator of three textbooks or classics: International Politics on the World Stage(by John Rouke; the Chinese version published by Peking University Press in 2005); The Culture of National Security: norms and identity in world politics (edited by Peter J. Katzenstein; the Chinese version published by Peking University Press in 2009); How Enemies Become Friends: The Sources of Stable Peace (by Charles Kupchan; the Chinese version published by Peking University Press in 2017).

Song Wei has published over 70 articles in renowned Chinese journals of international relations, including World Economics and Politics, The Journal of International Studies, and Quarterly Journal of International Politics.
